The 2010 Golf Family has a new addition. The all new Golf Wagon offers 1.89 cubic metres of space with the rear seats folded down.
And while the Golf Wagon may be new, it is not the only new feature about the Golf Family. As St. James Volkswagen sales rep David Sangster points out, the 2009 World Car of the Year is a completely redesigned Golf.
"The new Golfs have all new body panels (except for the roof), thicker glass, improved drag coefficient, improved engine dynamics, a brand new, re-engineered dash and an overall quieter ride," Sangster says.
And that goes for all the 2010 Golf variations including the base model, the wagon and the Golf GTI.
The three-door and five-door hatchback models and the wagon are all equipped with 2.5L, 5-cylinder, in-line, 20-valve engines which put out 170 h.p. at 5,700 r.p.m. and 177 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,250 r.p.m. The GTI model has a 2.4L, 4-cylinder, in-line, turbocharged engine with intercooler and direct injection. That model produces 200 h.p. at 5,100-6,000 r.p.m. and 207 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,700-5,000 r.p.m. The clean diesel version puts out 140 h.p. at 4,000 r.p.m. and 236 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,750-2,500 rpm.
The 2010 Golf interior features a totally redesigned instrument cluster with brilliant white lighting and intuitive switches and controls.
Sangster reports that the base model starts at $20,175 (plus freight and pdi) while the top of the line diesel five-door model sells for $31,535 (plus freight and pdi).
"The response to the new Golfs has been very positive," he says. "A lot of people have been in for test drives and we have sold a couple of GTI models already."

Lexus Canada picked Winnipeg to unveil its newest model. The luxury hybrid 2010 HS 250h was introduced at the Fairmont Hotel on Friday, September 18.
"Lexus chose Winnipeg to introduce its new hybrid because of the new Manitoba Hydro building downtown," says Woodhaven Lexus Toyota sales rep Ross Enokson. "The Hydro building is one of the most environmentally-friendly buildings in Canada and our new HS 250h is one of the greenest models out there."
He reports that the new hybrid is 90% recyclable. "The parts are made from plant-based material rather than petroleum-based materials," he says.
Enokson notes that the new model has a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder engine with a battery-powered electric motor that puts out 187 hp and gets 50 miles per gallon in city driving and 48 m.p.g. on the highway. The battery regenerates itself while in use so there is no need to plug in all the time, he adds.
He points out that the HS 250h has a larger trunk than most other hybrids because of the better placement of its battery and other hybrid components.
The pricing for the new model starts at $34,200 (plus freight and pdi).
"There are still a lot of people who are tentative about hybrid technology," Enokson notes. "There is a lot of misinformation out there.
The HS 250h has no problems in winter conditions and, on the highway, you can get up to speed just as quickly as in a non-hybrid.

Land Rover has introduced all-new models for 2010.
"The LR3 model was changed to such an extent that it was rebranded the LR4," says Matt Sarmatiuk, Land Rover Winnipeg's general manager. "The Land Rover lineup has just undergone its most dramatic changes in design in four years."
The 2010 models, which began arriving in Winnipeg a couple of months back, all have brand new engines which are larger, more powerful and more fuel efficient, Sarmatiuk says. The interiors have also been redesigned.
Sarmatiuk notes that Land Rover pricing ranges from $65,000 for the base line LR4 to $150,000 for the top of the line Range Rover Sport model.
