At just 22, Josh Isfjord has broken the monthly sales record at Selkirk Chevrolet Buick GMC.
The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox began arriving in dealer showrooms around the end of June and is proving to be very popular. Birchwood Chevrolet sales consultant Brandon Olson reports even though there are still 2017 models available, people have shown a willingness to pay more for the new model.
“It has been an easy sell,” Olson says of the third-generation crossover.
As compared with its predecessor, the 2018 model is shorter and weighs about 400 pounds less.
“You get a lot better fuel economy with the 2018 Equinox,” Olson says.
Olson notes that drivers have a choice between three different engines — a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder standard model, a 1.6 L 4-cylinder diesel and a 2 L 4-cylinder turbo with newer 9-speed automatic transmission — that can tow up to 3,500 lbs.
Also appealing to customers is that the back seats can be folded down all the way to allow for easier storage.
Olson points out that the 2018 Equinox is available in a choice of three trims.
The base model LS comes with heated seats and remote start. Added standard features for the LT and Premier editions include Chevrolet MyLink Audio system with seven-inch diagonal touchscreen, cruise and noise control, rear vision camera and theft alert, to cite a few. The Premier model also features a 360-deree camera, panoramic sunroof and LED daytime running lights.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models.
Olson reports that the price for the new Equinox starts at $26,900 (including freight and pdi).
“We have a plentiful supply,” he says.
Budding new sales star in Selkirk
After just 18 months in auto sales, 22-year-old Selkirk Chevrolet Buick GMC sales rep Josh Isfjord has become of the top-selling GM sales reps in Manitoba (if not Canada).
In July, Isfjord sold 25 vehicles, in the process breaking the previous record for monthly sales by a Selkirk Chev sales rep. (That previous record was 22.)
“I have sold more vehicles in the first seven months of this year than I sold all of last year,” he says.
Thus far, he has moved 115 vehicles. He says that he is aiming for 200 sales for the year.
“My sales have been growing every month,” he notes.
“As far as I am concerned, the sky’s the limit.”
Isfjord originally began working for Selkirk Chevrolet while still in high school. “I used to wash cars,” he says.
After high school, he worked for Shaw and MTS selling packages and gaining sales experience.
He credits his fellow sales reps and management for their support in helping him achieve his outstanding sales figures.
Also standing out at Selkirk Chevrolet is general sales manager Dianne Little. Little is one of very few women in senior management ranks in the industry in Manitoba.
Little got her start in the industry in finance at McKay Chevrolet in Thompson in 1994. (McKay Chevrolet was sold to the Haukaas Family in the spring and has been rebranded as Rock County Chevrolet Buick GMC.)
In 2000, the Little Family decided that it was time to move south — to Selkirk. Little joined Newport Pontiac also as finance manager. In 2004 Newport merged with Bruce Harris’ Harris Chevrolet Oldsmobile and moved to its current location.
Little was appointed to her new role two years ago.
“I love being the general sales manager and I love helping to close deals,” she says.
She further notes that Selkirk Chevrolet also has a female sales manager in Kelly Balmer who has also been in her role for two years. She previously worked in sales and finance.
