Kia’s new Stinger offers 365 horsepower and all-wheel drive, as well as a variety of driving modes.
Kia dealers have something new to offer in 2018.
Kia’s new Stinger, which debuted here in late December, is the manufacturer’s first entry in the performance vehicle category, says Birchwood Kia West sales rep Michael Downs.
“The Stinger is a fastback sports sedan that sells for about $20,000 less than most competing brands,” he points out.
The new model is propelled by a twin-turbo 3.3-L V-6 engine that produces 365 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque.
“With all-wheel drive, the Stinger is great for our climate,” Downs says. “The acceleration is also very good.”
Standard equipment includes Brembo brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 performance tires on aluminum wheels.
The driver has a choice of five driving-mode settings — Comfort, Sport, Smart, Eco, and Custom, the last of which allows you to mix and match suspension firmness, throttle mapping, shift programs and engine-sound enhancement.
The fastback design offers a power rear hatch which opens hands-free, allowing access to 660 litres of cargo space with the rear seats up, and up to 1,158 litres with the seats folded down.
Inside, Downs points out the standard seven-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a leather-appointed interior.
Options include adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a 360 degree camera and a 15-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
Downs says the price for a fully-loaded Stinger is $54,000.
“The Stinger was one of the most talked-about new vehicles in international circles last year,” he says. “It’s really great to have a performance vehicle in our inventory.”
Downs says he’s sold one model and the dealership currently has another in stock for viewing and test drives.
