The 2016 Mazda CX-9 is available in four trim series.
The 2016 Mazda CX-9 SUV arrived at local dealers at the beginning of July, and the big news for the top-selling model is a new engine.
The 2016 model comes with a Skyactiv-G 2.5L four-cylinder Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine — as compared to the V-6 engine that powered the previous CX-9 models — for best-in-class fuel economy and a higher level of power at a lower r.p.m., notes Crown Mazda sales representative Wes Giesbrecht.
Also new for the CX-9, Giesbrecht says, is the Mazda Connect Infotainment system with its easy-to-access seven-inch colour touch screen.
The 2016 model is available in four trims. The base-model GS comes with standard features including LED headlights, 18-inch silver finish alloy wheels, adjustable heated front seats, eight-way power driver’s seat and three-zone automatic climate control. The next level GS-L adds a leather package and power seats. With the GT trim, you also get 20-inch high-lustre smoke finish alloy wheels, adaptive front lighting system, aluminum dash and door panel trim and 12-speaker Bose sound system. The all-new Signature trim features Nappa leather, rosewood-trimmed centre console panel and door switch panel and door switch panel and Signature grille lighting.
Mazda’s available i-Activsense driver-assistance safety features include a new blind-spot-monitoring system that can detect vehicles closing in from more than 50 metres away, adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping assist program, lane-departure warning, auto high beams and collision-mitigating braking and sensing.
Giesbrecht reports the base price for the 2016 CX9 starts at $37,800 and ranges up to $52,600 (plus freight and pdi). “Each Mazda dealer received one showroom model initially,” says Giesbrecht of the 2016 CX-9. “We are expecting more soon. The CX-9 traditionally accounts for 25 per cent of Mazda sales, and we are anticipating that the new CX9 will continue to sell well.”
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (a.k.a. the Evo) is passing into history. Mitsubishi has discontinued production of the high-performance sports car after 10 generations.
“Only 500 Evos were made for Canada last year, and we have just two left unsold,” says Vickar Mitsubishi sales representative Robert Misa. “There has been a strong demand for them over the past few months.”
Vickar Mitsubishi’s sister store, Waverley Mitsubishi, has three models still in stock, reports sales manager Nelson Lantin. All of the versions of the Evo were powered by a two-litre turbocharged engine that produces 291 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. All models have AWD. Misa reports the remaining models in stock are selling for between $58,000 and $60,000 depending on the option packages you choose.
“The rumour is Mitsubishi is bringing out a new hybrid model to replace the Evo,” Misa says.
There have been management changes at Pembina Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Vickar Mitsubishi. At the latter store, the departure of general manager Daniel Micflikier in the spring to pursue other interests opened the door for Mehdi Moghareh. Moghareh was most recently a sales manager at Vickar Nissan where he started in sales 11 years ago. “I welcomed the opportunity to become general manager here (at Vickar Mitsubishi),” Moghareh says. “My goal is to build Vickar Mitsubishi into the top-selling Mitsubishi dealer in Canada.”
Also joining the Vickar Mitsubishi management team at the beginning of August are new sales managers Evan Jakilazek and Lisa Sobering. Jakilazek actually began his career in auto sales at Vickar Mitsubishi in 2009. He left the dealership in 2013 for another import dealer in the city but is happy to be back in a management position.
Lisa Sobering is the third-generation Sobering family member to embark on a career in the auto industry. She has been with the Vickar Auto Group for a year — most recently at Vickar Nissan. She also welcomes her management opportunity.
Over at Pembina Dodge, while Andrew Hryniuk may be well-known to many Chrysler drivers, Richard Soriano is brand-new to the business. Both Soriano and Hryniuk joined the Pembina Dodge team at the beginning of August. Hryniuk brings with him 11 years of Chrysler sales experience to his new position.
This was an opportunity to move forward in my career,” Hryniuk says. “The people here have been really welcoming. I like (general sales manager) John Michaud’s business philosophy. I’m looking forward to the new challenges and hoping to see many of my former customers coming here.”
Soriano’s previous management experience was in the cellphone industry. “There was a management opportunity here,” he says. “I was recruited to fill the opening. Everyone here has been very helpful.”
We offer our condolences to the family of David Youssiem, who passed away Aug. 9, following a long struggle with cancer. At the time of his passing, Youssiem was a sales manager at Winnipeg Dodge Jeep Chrysler.
Youssiem had been in the auto industry for almost 30 years. From 1986 to 2004, he was a partner with Mike Chiappetta at Eastwood Chrysler. He also later worked as an industry consultant. He joined the Winnipeg Dodge team in 2012.
“David was a tremendous individual,” says Walt Morris, the president of Winnipeg Dodge Chrysler Jeep. “He was a valuable part of the management team. All of his staff thought highly of him. David was always willing to go the extra mile for anyone that worked for him, and he will be missed. There was never a more encouraging, supportive co-worker than David. I’ve never had a better employee than David. He was a dedicated worker and never sought praise or attention. He was just content to do the best job he could, and he always succeeded. There is a hole here at Winnipeg Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram without David’s smile and work ethic. He will be sorely missed by his family and all of us at Winnipeg Dodge.”
