Jaguar’s E-PACE was on display at the Winnipeg Art Gallery on Feb. 7.

Last Wednesday the Winnipeg Art Gallery played host to a reception for about 200 enthusiastic guests — but it wasn’t art the crowd came to see.

The star of the evening was Jaguar’s new-for-2018 E-PACE — a five-seat compact SUV that packs the design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a spacious, practical and connected all-wheel-drive vehicle.

Jaguar Winnipeg general manager Matt Sarmatiuk described the new E-PACE as “an incredible vehicle”.

Sarmatiuk pointed out the E-PACE is modelled after the larger F-PACE — which won the Car of the Year Award last year at the 2017 World Car Awards in New York. He also noted the E-PACE — which is available in a choice of four trims (Standard, S, SE and HSE) — is powered by a turbocharged two-litre four-cylinder engine, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which produces 247 horsepower. The optional R-Dynamic package boosts the output to 296 hp.

Inside, Sarmatiuk pointed to class-leading interior storage space, an infotainment system complete with a 10-inch touchscreen and optional heated front seats.

He also spoke of safety features, which include lane-keep assist, rear-view camera and front and rear parking assist.

The base price for the E-PACE is $42,700.
