Murray Chevrolet and Murray Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram filled trucks with Christmas cheer for the less fortunate this holiday season.
Througout December both dealerships invited staff and customers to donate cash, toys and other needed items to a trio of causes.
Murray Chrysler donated the contents of the trucks to the Christmas Cheer Board and Winnipeg Harvest. Murray Chevrolet’s “Fill the Truck” campaign was in support of the North Point Douglas Women’s Centre.
On Dec. 14, at its weekly dealer auction, ADESA Winnipeg raised $30,000 for Winnipeg Harvest. And because ADESA’s auction is livestreamed worldwide, ADESA Winnipeg president Gregg Maidment notes, the donations came not only from Manitoba dealers, but also dealers from Quebec and as far away as Indianapolis and Dallas.
In November and December, ADESA auctioneers helped raised $25,000 for the United Way, $75,000 for Diabetes Canada, $90,000 for the St. Amant Centre and $500,000 at the annual Ice Crystal Gala for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Last spring, Nott Autocorp put out a call for donations of bicycles and other used sporting equipment as part of a new charitable initiative for underprivileged kids. The luxury pre-owned auto dealership dedicated a car hauler and a diesel truck to drive around the city on weekends picking up equipment to be donated to inner-city youth.
While that program ended on May 31, Trevor Nott reports that Nott Autocorp has recently purchased three 50-foot shipping storage containers and is accepting used bikes and sporting goods all year long now.
To donate, contact Nott Autocorp at 204-889-6688 or drop into the showroom at 1322 Waverley St.
The Vickar Auto Group was one of the sponsors for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Drive Pink initiative in October in support of the fight against breast cancer. The Vickar Group — which includes Vickar Community Chevrolet, Vickar Ford, Vickar Nissan, Vickar Mitsubishi, Waverley Mitsubishi and Vickar Pre-Owned Super Centre — set aside a portion from the sale of every vehicle throughout October in any of the group’s dealerships.
On Nov. 30, the Vickar group presented the Canadian Cancer Society with a cheque for $23,150.
It has been almost 10 months since the Murray Auto Group acquired the former Pembina Chrysler Dodge Jeep (along with the other Pembcorp facilities in Portage la Prairie, Morden and Carman) and, under new managing partner Jared Lang and his management team, Murray Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram’s sales have been trending upward.
While the dealership near Confusion Corner has always enjoyed good results in its parts and service departments, Lang notes that new and used car sales tended to lag behind Winnipeg’s other Chrysler dealers.
“We have seen some growth here over the last few months,” Lang says. “I learned a lot working with Dan Murray and Jim Chewka at Murray Chevrolet. They have had a lot of success there. My goal is to build the same level of success here.”
To that end, Lang has recruited two new sales managers with years of experience in the industry.
Originally from Brazil, where he was involved in business and law, Marcos Lima came to Canada 31/2 years ago and immediately went into auto sales with a used car dealer. After just a year, he was promoted to sales manager. He joined Murray Chrysler as sales manager in May.
“I welcomed the opportunity to join the Murray Auto Group and improve my management skills,” he says.
Andre Prefontaine came on board as sales manager in August. Prefontaine has been in auto sales for 23 years and in management for the past 10 years with another domestic dealership.
“I was attracted to Murray Chrysler by the opportunity to work with Jared (Lang) and help the dealership grow,” he says. “Last year, we were third in sales among Winnipeg Chrysler stores. Two months ago, we were second. We are closing the gap.”
Murray Chrysler has also welcomed back Jeff (Missouri) McDonnal to the sales team. McDonnal spent four years working for Pembina Chrysler before leaving for another domestic dealership — which is where he met Prefontaine. Prefontaine, he says, is one factor in his decision to come back to Confusion Corner.
“There has been a lot of positive change here,” he says. “I am looking forward to building something big here.”
Lang further reports that the completely redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 — the 2019 Motor Trend Truck of the Year — and that the redesigned SUV of the Year Jeep Wrangler JL are now in stock at the dealership. And also that the new 2020 Jeep Gladiator should be arriving by end of March.
It has been another good year for Murray Chevrolet in terms of national recognition. The Waverley Auto Mall dealership was recently named by Reviewsii as Canadian Dealer of the Year for 2018 for being the highest-rated dealer in Canada for sales and service, as well as the Car Gurus Top Rated Dealer for 2018, which celebrates the best dealers in Canada that deliver on the promise of a trustworthy and customer-satisfactory car-shopping process.
As well, the Murray Auto Group was just notified two weeks ago that it is being recognized by Deloitte and RBC as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies Platinum Edition for 2018 — the 13th year in a row that the Murray Group has made the list.
Murray Chevrolet is also the recipient of the 2019 Consumer Choice Award for Winnipeg in the New Car Dealer category — the fourth year in succession that the dealership has received the award.
In the pre-owned category, Auto Gallery of Canada is a repeat owner of the Consumer’s Choice Award for 2019. One of Manitoba’s top-selling used car dealers, Auto Gallery — located at 3777 Portage Ave. near the Perimeter Highway — has now received the Consumer’s Choice Award for most popular used car dealer in Winnipeg for the 11th time. The dealer was also recognized as the Top Choice Award for the 11th year in a row.
“It is especially hard to retain customer loyalty when you are selling pre-owned vehicles,” Auto Gallery co-owner Gord Pedersen (in partnership with Dan Gagnon) says. “Our numerous awards speak to the very high level of satisfaction among our many customers. Our staff goes above and beyond to exceed expectations for every customer.”
The Consumer’s Choice Award was presented at an awards evening at the Metropolitan Centre on Dec. 11.
