The ongoing sales success of the pear-shaped Encore has convinced Buick that a small, Opel Adam-based hatchback isn’t needed in their brand portfolio.
“I very much did feel when I came over that [the Opel Adam] could really help accelerate the Buick brand story,” Duncan Aldred, Buick brand manager, told Automotive News.
“I don’t see that as much. Whether the market shifted or the fashion nature of those cars has changed, I don’t know. But I wouldn’t be looking for a small, B-segment car today.”
Buick’s vision for its future lineup involves three sedans, three CUVs and one halo car. Hopefully the halo model will be the striking Avista we saw earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Buick’s current lineup consists of the Encore, along with the Verano, Regal and LaCrosse sedans, the Enclave and Envision crossovers and, in the U.S., the Cascada convertible.
