The next-generation Jeep Wrangler might be on the receiving end of a new engine now being developed by Fiat Chrysler.
Code-named the Hurricane, the engine will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit, says Automotive News, complete with direct injection, variable valve timing and a twin-scroll turbocharger. Exact horsepower figures haven’t been released yet, but expect it to punch in at around the 300 mark.
The report also says the new turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be built at Fiat Chrysler’s Trenton engine facility, just outside of Detroit, alongside the current 3.6-L Pentastar V-6. Expect that engine to be carried over, with the turbo four appearing as a more fuel-efficient choice. Additional possibilities include a diesel engine and a hybrid powertrain.
