HONDA has announced the all-new 2017 Civic Hatchback will be making its long-awaited return to Canada this fall. The new Civic hatch will also serve as the basis for the radical new Civic Type-R, which is scheduled to launch in 2017.
The Civic returns in hatchback form with striking looks and five-door versatility. It is built on the same platform as the 10th-generation Civic Sedan and Coupe
The Civic Hatchback will feature a single engine for the Canadian market: a 1.5-litre turbocharged in-line four-cylinder engine. This mill will pump out 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque in LX trim, and bumps up the power output to 180 hp in the Sport and all-new Sport Touring trims, both of which will feature a centre-mounted exhaust.
The turbocharged engine will be offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT. Fuel economy ratings are expected to be 7.7 litres per 100 km in the city, 6.0 L/100 km highway on the LX CVT trim and 7.9 city, 6.6 highway in the Sport and Sport Touring CVT trims. The manual transmission on all trims is expected to be rated at 8.0 city and 6.2 highway.
