Chevy, Jeep dealers tout new arrivals

For drivers eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new Chevrolet Cruze or Jeep Grand Cherokee models, the wait is over.

Both vehicles are on showroom floors now.

Chevrolet Cruze introduces new hatchback version

For the Cruze, the big news is Chevrolet has introduced a hatchback version for 2017.

“This is the first true hatchback,” says Vickar Chevrolet sales representative Nigel Chapil. “We have had a lot of customers waiting for it. We had seven customers lined up for the first day and the feedback has been really positive. Customers have been telling us they love the handling — and that the new model has more pickup — that it’s peppier. One customer who took the model out for a test drive noted the heated seats in the rear were a nice addition.”

Chapil points out the new Cruze is roomier in the back than its predecessor. “It’s a good family car,” he says. “There is a lot of room for a booster seat in the back.”

The new hatchback has much more storage space, further enhanced by collapsible back seats. The 2017 model — in both the sedan and hatchback — is powered by a 1.4L DOHC turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque.

Inside, Chapil notes the stereo is now a Bose system, which produces much smoother sounds. “And the touchscreen, equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, is easier to work with,” he says.

The new Cruze is available in a choice of three trims — L, LS and Premium. Chapil reports the starting price for the L model is $17,745 (including freight and pdi).

“General Motors has a good incentive program for current and former Cruze owners,” Chapil says.

Grand Cherokee SRT boasts new front end

The 2017 Grand Cherokee SRT has a new front fascia, new grille and fog lamps.

“What I really like about the Grand Cherokee SRT is that it’s got this big 6.4L Hemi V-8 engine, (which puts out 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque),” says Waverley Chrsyler Dodge Jeep sales rep Randy (Duke) Duquette.

“It’s the perfect balance of power and comfort. It’s the epitome of rugged luxury.”

The eight-speed automatic transmission offers a choice of eight drive modes: Auto, Sport, Track, Snow, Tow, Custom, Eco and Valet.

On the inside, Duquette points out, the SRT Jeep gets a new Laguna Leather package.

“The Grand Cherokee SRT is the most popular of our SRT models (which also includes the Dodge Viper, the Dodge Challenger and the Dodge Charger),” Duquette says.

The base price for the 2017 Grand Chreokee SRT is in the range of $70,000.

“We have half a dozen currently available,” Duquette says.

Duquette is relatively new to the Waverley Chrysler Dodge Jeep team. He was brought on board in the spring through his connection with general sales manager Daniel Adelman.

“I had worked with Daniel before, at another dealership,” says Duquette, who commutes from Île-des-Chênes.

“We kept in touch. I dropped in on Daniel and one thing led to another. I was ready for a change. I love working here. We have a great team with great people and a good working atmosphere.”
