There’s a new look to the 2018 Ford F-150 — Canada’s top-selling pickup truck — which began arriving at local dealerships a couple of weeks ago.
“The F-150 has a new-look grille, bumper and tailgate and an updated interior,” says Reagan Slezak, Birchwood Keystone Ford’s general sales manager.
Birchwood Ford sales rep Jodi Stefanchuk adds the wheels are different, too. She also points out the new model offers an additional engine choice — a new 3.3-litre naturally-aspirated V-6 — replacing the 3.5-L previously found in the base model. The 3.3-L engine boosts horsepower and torque slightly. Also, the 2.7-L EcoBoost V-6 and 5-L V-8 have been somewhat modified. The 3.5-L EcoBoost V-6 and 3.5-L high-output EcoBoost V-6 remain unchanged.
Standard on all F-150s this year is Ford’s Auto Start-Stop Technology, which can help reduce fuel consumption and vehicle emissions during city driving.
When an F-150 comes to a stop and is idling, the engine automatically shuts off. Then, it seamlessly restarts when you step on the accelerator or when your foot leaves the brake pedal.
And Ford’s standard Dynamic Hitch Assist provides a visible sight line on the instrument panel display to help direct your hitch ball to the trailer receiver.
As well, Ford’s available SYNC Connect helps you stay connected to your F-150, using the FordPass app. FordPass controls include remote lock/unlock, check fuel status, scheduled vehicle start and helps locate your vehicle.
The 2018 F-150 ranges in price from about $30,000 to as much as $80,000 depending on your choice of options and packages.
Although Slezak reports Birchwood Ford has a couple of hundred models on order, Stefanchuk notes the new trucks are selling out almost as fast as they are coming in.
Congratulations to ADESA
For the second consecutive year, ADESA Winnipeg has been named the National Auto Auction Association’s (NAAA) eastern chapter Auto Auction of the Year, in recognition of its public service.
The auction operator has planned and participated in more than 55 events, which raised more than $3.5 million for various regional causes, according to NAAA.
“While we were touched and amazed by the charitable efforts of all our entrants, ADESA Winnipeg’s culture of giving back was evidenced by the sheer number and diversity of charities they’re able to support,” NAAA eastern chapter president Chris Angelicchio said in a news release. “Congratulations to their team for truly making community service part of their daily lives.”
“Our team strives to make a positive impact in the community by donating their time, money and auctioneering skills in service to more than 55 charities,” says Gregg Maidment, ADESA’s senior vice-president of Canadian operations and general manager of ADESA Winnipeg. “To reach out to that many causes big or small often means our employees are participating in three or four events in a week — sometimes even two the same day. And we don’t plan on slowing down any time soon.”
This year, Maidment and his wife, Lana, co-chaired the Gold Heart Gala Under the Big Top fundraiser during which ADESA Winnipeg staff held a live auction for the 765 guests, raising $532,000 for Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba.
Just before Christmas, ADESA raised $31,760 with its dealer partners to help Winnipeg Harvest feed more than 62,000 Manitobans holiday dinner baskets.
Additionally, two weeks after learning that a young boy born with two rare diseases needed extensive brain surgery far from his home, the auction operator raised $12,000 to help his family pay for medical expenses, according to NAAA.
ADESA Winnipeg supports organizations such as the Special Olympics, Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital, KidSport, the Dream Factory, Habitat for Humanity, CancerCare Manitoba, the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, the local Alzheimer’s Society and the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter.
As NAAA’s eastern chapter winner, ADESA receives a large crystal loving cup, a feature story in both NAAA’s On The Block magazine and annual membership directory, as well as a $5,000 donation for the charity of the auction operator’s choice.
In November, at the NAAA convention, ADESA Winnipeg will compete against the midwest, southern and western chapter finalists for NAAA’s Auto Auction of the Year Award for Excellence in Community Service. The champion receives a crystal trophy and a $20,000 prize for a charity of the auction’s choice.
In further ADESA Canada news, the national organization has teamed up with TradeRev, an innovative tech startup focused on streamlining automotive sales between dealers, to promote the advantages of going “digital first.”
This new strategic approach, reports TradeRev CEO and co-founder Mark Endras, encourages dealers to utilize TradeRev’s mobile app auction platform before sending cars to a physical auction. TradeRev enables seller dealers to launch their own live vehicle auctions to a nationwide network of buying dealers to help liquidate and source inventory smarter, faster and cheaper.
“ADESA is North America’s premier auction marketplace with thousands of strong, trusted dealer relationships,” Endras says. “Partnering with them to accelerate the ‘digital first’ revolution is exhilarating for both companies and incredibly exciting for our shared customers.”
ADESA is a business unit of KAR Auction Services, Inc., which also holds a 50 per cent stake in TradeRev. As part of this cross-brand collaboration, TradeRev will now have a physical presence in 14 ADESA auction locations. ADESA sales teams nationwide will offer hands-on assistance to help Canadian dealers load their inventory onto TradeRev’s intuitive, easy-to-use mobile app. Once launched, dealers can receive live, real-time bids from any participating TradeRev dealer.
Earlier this year, TradeRev and ADESA also announced a series of exclusive partnerships representing more than 100 dealerships across Canada. These relationships added tens of thousands of vehicles to the inventory available through TradeRev’s broad network of buyer and seller dealers.
With thousands of North American dealers utilizing TradeRev, more than 500,000 dealer auctions have been launched through the mobile app, generating over six million dealer bids. TradeRev is available nationwide in Canada and in 10 markets across the United States.
