Kia Stinger for those who really like to drive

BY Myron Love . Nov 03 03:00 am

Kia’s new-for-2018 limited edition Stinger made a pit stop at Winnipeg Kia in late October, as part of the sport sedan’s introductory tour of Canada.

“A lot of people came in to have a look at the model while it was here,” Winnipeg Kia sales manager Justin Semeniuk said. “The Stinger is a car for people who really like to drive.”

He noted the model is powered by a choice of either a two-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine (that puts out 255 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque) or a 3.3L twin-turbo V-6 engine (365 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque).

Semeniuk added that while the Stinger is a sport sedan, it is also family friendly with seating for five and bountiful storage space.

Inside, Napa leather is standard with a heated steering wheel and an advanced infotainment system displayed on an available eight-inch touchscreen among the options.

The exterior design took two top awards at its debut earlier this year at the annual North American International Auto Show.

Semeniuk said the Stinger is priced at between $48,000 and $52,000. The model is available by order only.

“We hope to write up perhaps half a dozen orders,” Semeniuk said.

2018 CX-9 upgraded

Mazda’s 2018 CX-9 arrived in dealer showrooms in early October with some upgrades over the 2017 edition, Gerry Gordon Mazda sales rep Dave Hallock said.

Among the new features is the traffic sign recognition system. This and the improved smart city brake support — which automatically causes the brakes to go into action at low speeds when pedestrians or other objects are ahead — are both features are part of Mazda’s i‑Activesense suite of safety equipment. Other features include cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, adaptive front lighting and high-beam control.

The CX-9 is powered by Skyactiv-G 2.5 T engine which, along with a lighter yet stronger body, means outstanding fuel efficiency. And Skyactiv’s new G‑Vectoring Control (GVC) adjusts engine torque, optimizing vehicle weight transfer during drives — resulting in more precise steering and a more comfortable ride.

Also new is the eight-way power front passenger seat, providing the same kind of lumbar support as the driver’s seat.

“The CX-9’s fit and finish is on par with more expensive luxury models,” Hallock said, adding the 2018 CX-9 base price starts at $35,600.

“We have had a good response to the 2018 CX-9,” he said. “We still have a good selection of 2017 models — but we have written a couple of orders for 2018 models.”

Changes at Waverley Chrysler

There has been a couple of recent changes at Jim Gauthier’s Waverley Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. John Michaud joined the dealership’s management team during the summer as one of the sales managers.

Michaud has been involved in auto sales for the past four years, all of it in management and largely with another Chrysler store.

“I relished the opportunity to be part of a management team at a much higher volume Chrysler store,” he said. “I am enjoying it here.”

And Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans may be interested to learn recently retired Bombers defensive end Jason Vega has begun his post-football life as part of Waverley Chrysler’s sales team.

Vega played for the Bombers for six years before retiring last winter, and also played in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys. He briefly joined the Waverley Chrysler team in March 2016.

“I came back here last December; the transition has gone well. Dealing with people is one of my strengths. I like getting to know people and helping them find the car they are looking for,” he said.

“Also, I have always loved cars.”
